On January 10, 2022, Kim YoHan held a media showcase for the release of this mini-album and dived deep into the meaning behind each song on the tracklist, shared behind-the-scenes stories, and more. Kpopmap was honoured to have been invited to the showcase and we asked the artist some questions related to “Illusion”. Before that, he enchanted us with an incredible performance of ‘Dessert’ and ‘Landing On You’, re-establishing his amazing stage presence and multifaceted nature as an artist. Kim YoHan makes an entrance that is grander than ever, looking chic like a chimera in all black. His live vocals are truly a blessing to witness because they’re as stable as his steps while performing the complex choreography of ‘Dessert’. In a pleasant surprise, he raps, and needless to say, it blends in seamlessly with the gorgeous melody line of the song. Kim YoHan’s ability to command the stage has always been extraordinary but something about him has changed with this comeback: he is absolutely bewitching! This is Kim YoHan like we’ve never seen before!
Kim YoHan chooses a concept that is diametrically opposed to ‘Dessert’ in ‘Landing On You’. Lyrical choreography is something that YoHan masters through this song because just as adorable and endearing as the lyrics are, his dance steps are equally heartwarming. Kim YoHan’s effortless charms get free rein in this performance and you cannot help but wish he was singing it to and for you. The aegyo is too good to be true. The song itself has huge production merit too because it is both refreshing and relaxing yet fast-paced and exciting at the same time.
Right off the bat, Kim YoHan shared a neat piece of information for fans of his K-Drama “School 2021”. The filming for the same ended this morning, right before his showcase. Rather than the packed schedules being difficult, YoHan shared that he was grateful and honoured to be working on and completing two projects at once. He further shared that he wanted to put forth a duality with “Illusion” that focuses on chicness that shows fantasy in a sophisticated or dreamlike way. Admittedly, he has never taken on such a concept before and was nervous about it but he knocks it out of the park regardless. About the song ‘Selfish’, YoHan shared that it is the song that he would like to recommend to Gong KiJoon, his character from “School 2021” because the very essence of the song is that it is alright and often necessary to be selfish and put oneself first. In addition, he wanted to dedicate the song ‘Landing On You’ to the Gong-Won couple (Gong KiJoon x Jin JiWon) from the drama. He further revealed that he wrote the rap for “Selfish” while he was filming for “School 2021”, in between scenes. About his song ‘Star’, YoHan revealed that he wrote the song with his fans in mind and thanked them for being with him so far, urging them to continue to be together in the future. Next, for the question and answer segment, Kpopmap had a couple of questions for Kim YoHan! What was the first thing you did when you decided to make “Illusion”? Why did you think that now was the perfect time for such an amazing first step? The thing I prepared first was my mindset. Rather than it being the right time, I think I’m grateful for the opportunity of releasing a solo album and trying something new. Kim YoHan Was there anything different about your mindset when you were working for your solo album versus when you’re promoting with WEi? My heart feels overwhelmed. As a WEi member, I can rely on the other 5 members. Since I am alone, I felt a lot of pressure but I gained the courage to overcome it. I feel that it was a good way for me to grow. Kim YoHan Finally, Kim YoHan concluded the showcase by saying that he was grateful to be able to show fans songs with lyrics that he wrote himself and he wished that even more people would know Kim YoHan’s name.
