The webtoon “Yumi’s Cells” (in Korean “유미의 세포들”) by Lee DongGeon was adapted into a drama. It tells the relatable story of YuMi an ordinary office worker in her 30s from the perspective of the cells of her head. Studio Dragon and Studio N started the production of the webtoon with 3 billion views accumulated. Kim GoEun, Ahn BoHyun, Lee YuBi, and Park JiHyun are cast. The drama aired from September 17. 2. “D.P.” / Schedule status: From August 27
The webtoon “D.P Dog Day” (In Korean “D.P 개의 날”) by Kim BoTong was adapted into the drama named “D.P. (Deserter Pursuit)”. It talks about a soldier who catches deserters. In 2015, the webtoon writer first announced that it will be adapted into a drama. In 2020, it was announced that the drama will be a 6 episode Netflix Original drama. 3. “Love Alarm 2” / Schedule status: From March 12
“Love Alarm” (in Korean “좋아하면 울리는”) by Cheon KyeYeong is a webtoon about people that want to know their true heart in a society where people use an app to find out who likes them. Netflix already released the first season with Kim SoHyun, Song Kang, and Jung GaRam in Summer 2019. The long-waited season 2 was released on March 12. 4. “Nevertheless,” / Schedule status: From June 19
The romance webtoon “I Know But” (in Korean “알고 있지만”) by Jung Seo was adapted into the drama “Nevertheless,”. It tells the romance of NaBi who doesn’t trust love but who wants to date and of JaeEon who is tired of dating but who wants to flirt. The director Kim KaRam (“The Vampire Detective”, “Devilish Charm”, “Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency”), and writer Jung Won (“Necessary Dating Education”) are in charge. The webtoon “Leave Me Not” / “Must You Go?” (in Korean “가시리잇고”) by Park SunJae and RaHee was adapted into a web drama. In “Navillera”, an elderly man who starts ballet and a young man built a friendship through ballet. It tells the story of people who have dreams because we only live once. The webtoon “The Hell” (in Korean “지옥”) by Yeon SangHo and Choi KyuSuk was adapted into a drama with the working title “Hellbound”. It tells the story that happens suddenly to humans when supernatural phenomenon events occur to them. It is unknown if it is a miracle or a curse. The fantasy romance webtoon “A Falling Cohabitation” (in Korean “간 떨어지는 동거”) by Na was adapted into the drama called “My Roommate Is A Gumiho”. It is about a 999-year-old gumiho (Korean nine-tailed fox) and a cool female university student born in 1999 who got to live together because she swallowed the gumiho’s fox orb by mistake. It tells the love story of a half-vampire and half-human high school girl who has to choose between her instinct and love. The campus life webtoon “At A Distance, Spring Is Green” (in Korean “멀리서 보면 푸른 봄”) by JiNyung was adapted into a drama. It tells the real struggles of people in their 20s and the issues of university students. At a distance, their youth seems beautiful but if you look at it closely it is harsh. The manhwa and webtoon “Yeonmo” also translated “Affection” (in Korean “연모”) by Lee SoYoung was adapted into the drama “The King’s Affection”. It is the secret court romance drama of a woman who was abandoned because she was born as a girl. When her twin brother died, she was asked to pretend to be him: the crown prince. The BL game “Saebit Boys High School Council” (in Korean “새빛남고 학생회” by DAY7) later adapted into the webtoon “Behind the Desks - Love is Addiction” by EVY (in Korean “새빛남고 학생회 고문입니다”, literal translation “I am a Counselor of Saebit Boys High School Council”) was adapted into the web drama “Light On Me”. It is the teen romance of Woo TaeKyung who met his first love after he entered the Saebit Boys High School Council to make friends. It will tell the romance and friendship of the blunt and straightforward Woo TaeKyung, the cold on the outside and warm on the inside No ShinWoo, the school president and the most popular student Shin DaOn, and the mood maker NamGoong SiOn. The webtoon “Shadow Beauty” (in Korean “그림자 미녀”) by AhHeum will be adapted into a Kakao TV web drama. It tells the double life of Goo AeJin, a school girl complexed about her looks but on her social media, she is a celebrity called Genie with over 770K followers. The webtoon “The World of My 17” also called “Girl’s World” (in Korean “소녀의 세계”) by Morangji was adapted into a web drama for the first season in 2020. In 2021, season 2 of the drama will be released. It tells the first love story of the 18-year-old girl Oh NaRi. The drama “She Would Never Know” (also known as “Sunbae, Don’t Put On That Lipstick”, in Korean “선배, 그 립스틱 바르지마요”) is based on a popular web novel of Elizeu published in 2017. JTBC studios and Jaedam Media released the first episode of the webtoon version (by Cafe Latte and Jinha) on Jan. 4- just a few days before the start of the drama. The drama is based on the webtoon which was released at similar timing as the drama. “She Would Never Know” tells the complicated office love story of sunbae SongAh and hoobae HyunSeung who has a one-sided love for her. Dark Hole follows the story of a city called Muji that is enveloped by black smoke, turning the city’s inhabitants into dangerous monsters.
